Everyone goes to Ohrid from the Macedonian side; almost nobody sees the Albanian shore. Pogradec is the lake at its most relaxed — poetry, fish soup and mountain air, two hours from Tirana.
How the day works
Pick-up around 8:30, then 2 hours to Pogradec: the lakeside promenade and a coffee where the locals take it. Then the Drilon springs — willow-shaded pools where the lake water wells up — and the village of Tushemisht right on the border. Optional crossing to Ohrid town (passports needed) for the churches and the fortress view, or more lake time on the Albanian side. Home by early evening.

The lake that made poets
Pogradec is Albania's town of poets — the lake light here has filled anthologies. The local speciality is koran, a trout found only in this lake; lunch by the water is half the reason to come. Slower and softer than the mountain tours, this is the day your feet will thank you for.

Do we need passports?
