Pellumbas is the hike Tirana locals keep for themselves: the Black Cave where prehistoric bears slept, then down to the Erzeni river for a swim in natural pools. Private means you walk at your pace and swim as long as you like.
How the day works
Pick-up around 8:30, just 40 minutes to Pellumbas village. The trail climbs about 1 hour to the Black Cave (Shpella e Zezë) — 360 m of galleries with helmets and torches provided. Then down a steeper path to the Erzeni canyon: natural pools and small waterfalls, perfect for a swim and a picnic. Back in Tirana by mid-afternoon.

Who this hike is for
Active travellers who want real nature without the 3-hour drives of the Alps. The trails are moderate — about 3 hours of walking total — with one steep descent to the river. Great for families with sporty kids, and for anyone who has already seen the classic cities.
When to go and how to book
April to October; the river pools are best June–September. After heavy rain the river rises and we adapt the route. Date and group size on WhatsApp — confirmed within the hour.
Frequently asked questions
How difficult is the hike?
Moderate: about 3 hours of walking in total, with one steep 30-minute descent to the river (and the climb back up). Normal fitness and trainers with grip are enough.
Can we really swim?
Yes — the Erzeni pools are the reward: clear, fresh water and natural rock slides. Bring a swimsuit and a towel in summer.
Is the cave safe?
Yes, with the guide: helmets and torches provided, and the visited galleries are wide. It is not recommended for anyone with strong claustrophobia.
Is lunch included?
No — most guests bring a picnic for the river (we can arrange a packed lunch on request) or eat late back in Tirana.
