Twenty-six kilometres of limestone gorge, waterfalls pouring straight off the rim, and a natural swimming pool under a waterfall at the end — the Osumi Canyon is the south's answer to Bovilla, and in spring it is arguably the better of the two.
What the day is
Morning pick-up in Tirana and south toward Çorovodë, with the landscape shifting from plain to mountains. The canyon reveals itself at the rim viewpoints: sixty-metre walls draped in greenery, the river threading below, and — in spring — waterfalls dropping directly off the cliffs into the gorge. Depending on water level, you walk the canyon floor or explore the rim trails; high-water spring dates with the right operators include wading sections that are pure adventure. Then the reward: Bogova waterfall, a perfect 20-metre drop into a turquoise pool — cold, beautiful, and basically mandatory to swim in. Many departures fold in a stop in Berat on the way home (the two pair perfectly), or a village lunch in the canyon country. Back in Tirana by evening.

Season — this one matters
Osumi is the most seasonal experience in our catalogue. March to June is prime: snowmelt fills the gorge, the rim waterfalls run, and the canyon is at full drama — this is when you want to go. July–August the water drops; the canyon is still impressive and the swimming is warmer, but the waterfalls reduce to trickles. In winter the trip does not run. If your dates are April–May, book this before almost anything else. Book 1–2 weeks ahead in spring (it is connoisseur season), less in summer. When is the absolute best time for Osumi Canyon?
April and May: the waterfalls pour off the rim, the river is full, and the canyon is at its most dramatic. That is the honest answer — this is the most season-sensitive trip we sell, and spring is worth planning around.
Do we walk inside the canyon itself?
When water levels allow, yes — wading the canyon floor between the walls is the highlight. In high-water weeks it is rim trails and viewpoints instead. The operator decides by conditions on the day; either version is a strong day.
Can we combine it with Berat?
Yes — the canyon sits near Berat and the combo (canyon morning, Berat afternoon) is one of our best-value days, from €85. If you have already done Berat, the canyon-plus-Bogova-only version keeps the day shorter.
Is the Bogova swim suitable for non-swimmers?
The pool edge is shallow and enjoyable without swimming; the deep middle is for confident swimmers only. The waterfall itself and the setting reward everyone. Water shoes strongly recommended on the pebbles.
