Kosovo is the day trip that makes people back home ask questions. Europe's youngest country (2008), Albanian-speaking, Ottoman-architectured, and home to Prizren — arguably the most charming small city in the Balkans, ninety minutes from your Tirana hotel.
How the day runs
Hotel pick-up in Tirana and onto the “Nation's Road” motorway north — a genuinely scenic drive through the mountains. The border is quick with a driver who crosses it constantly. Then Prizren: the old town gathers around the Lumbardhi river, spanned by the 16th-century Stone Bridge, with the Sinan Pasha Mosque's glowing interior, the Albanian League of Prizren house (where modern Albania's story began, fittingly visited from Albania), and lanes of coppersmiths and filigree jewellers still working. Climb to Kalaja fortress for the view over red roofs and minarets — twenty minutes up, worth every step. Lunch is a highlight: Prizren's grill culture is famous, and €10–15 buys a feast. The afternoon can add the Bear Sanctuary (rescued brown bears, a family favourite) or the Gadime caves, then home across the border by evening.

Good to know
Runs all year — Prizren is a living city, and winter snow on the fortress is beautiful. Documents: Kosovo uses the euro and admits EU/UK/US passports visa-free; most nationalities that can enter Albania can enter Kosovo, but tell us yours when booking so we confirm. The day is 9–11 hours door to door, gentler than Montenegro. Compared with Ohrid, Prizren is more bazaar-and-grill, Ohrid more lake-and-churches; both are easy yeses. Message us your date, group size and passport nationality — we confirm driver, border notes and exact price in one chat.
Frequently asked questions
Is Kosovo safe for tourists?
Yes — Prizren is a relaxed, hospitable small city, and tourist visits are routine. Our drivers cross the border weekly with guests. Normal travel common sense applies, as anywhere.
What currency and documents do I need?
Kosovo uses the euro — very convenient. You need a passport; EU, UK and US citizens enter visa-free. Tell us your nationality when booking and we will confirm both Kosovo entry and Albanian re-entry.
What is the Bear Sanctuary?
A rescue centre near Pristina housing brown bears saved from restaurant cages — a genuinely good operation and a hit with families. It adds about 90 minutes to the day; tell us if you want it included.
Can we also visit Pristina?
Possible on the private day — Pristina's Newborn monument and café scene are 45 minutes further. It makes the day fuller; most guests prefer Prizren in depth. Tell us your priority and we shape the route.
